Did the headline draw you in? I hope so. Catchy headlines are supposed to be clutch if I want you to read this. I also read that if I really want to make my post great, it should be resourceful, scannable, easy to read, and maybe even include a top (insert # here) list and picture. And then I thought, I’m screwed. I can’t do those things. I can’t write a perfect blog. So, I stopped writing.

Diagnosis. Writer’s block. Causes: Fear, lack of motivation, inhibition. Treatment. Chocolate (well, that and I suppose just sitting down and writing).

I realized the problem: I had so many ideas that I wanted to write about, that I didn’t write about any of them because I didn’t know which topic to hit next. And because I couldn’t decide which topic to hit next, I began to think that none of them was any good. And then I kept thinking about all of the “rules” for writing a great blog and I got scared, thinking that I could never do any of the topics any justice.

Overall: I realized that I was letting perfect get in the way of pretty good.

Truth be told, there are so many things that are important to life, and my list may be a bit arbitrary. There are really just three things on my list that I really want to talk about at some point in great detail, but a top three list didn’t seem as good as a top 10 list, and it certainly didn’t seem to fit the “rules” of a good blog post. So, in no order, here’s my “Top 10″ list:

Top 10 Most Important Things in Life

1. Family- If you’re blessed to have a great family, love it and reach out to someone who may not be as blessed. Also remember that NO ONE’s family is perfect, no matter what. Try to love what you have. (Or at least try to laugh at the crazy ones. I’m allowed to say that because I’m one of them.)

2. Friends – choose wisely, and be the best friend who you can be.

3. Genuine love and support, both receiving and giving.

4. Your health and making the most of it.

5. The basics: food, water, sleep, oxygen.

6. Buffalo chicken fingers, orange juice and sour gummy worms. Not necessarily together.

7. A sense of humility. No ONE is better than anyone else.

10. Faith and a positive mind.

Which three do I want to talk about in greater detail? Numbers eight, nine and 10. My thoughts on those three things constitute another 500-800 words. But for this post, I’ll stick to one little piece of advice. It’s not so much about what my top 10 most important things in life may be, it’s about getting “stuck,” as I so often do. The top 10 list was just my excuse to write this little piece of “resourcefulness” in a way that was somewhat “scannable,” “easy to read,” with a catchy “headline” and a “picture.”

If you are stuck, maybe you’re thinking about something you really want to work on but you don’t know where to start, or you’re afraid you won’t do it well or you get anxiety just thinking about it, here’s my advice to you: Don’t let perfect get in the way of good.

To those who leave comments on my posts: I always read, and re-read, everyone’s comments to my posts. Unfortunately, I am not on Facebook – a topic for another post – so I cannot write back to your comments; but if you don’t mind that I can’t write back, I would still love it if you would continue to comment. I really enjoy reading them, and I thank all of you who share my posts with your friends.
