About Beth

Hey! I’m Beth – a 32 year old foodie living and working in Washington, DC. I’m a life long Weight Watcher and have lost 88 pounds (a few times now) from my highest to lowest weight, but am currently back to the drawing board trying to figure out how to get back to my goal weight. Thanks for coming along for the ride as I navigate the world of getting back on track.

When I saw this on Caitlin’s blog a little while ago, I’ve had it bookmarked to answer these questions because I’m always so curious about other people’s responses! I liked the Part II questions more than Part I, so Part II it is. =)

What are you really good at? What are you really bad at?

I am really good at making people laugh, being too loud on occasion, doing math in my head, cooking, taking tests, and getting things done when I put my mind to them. I’m not so good at intelligently talking about geography or politics, relaxing/doing nothing, having just one of anything, or consistently house cleaning.

Have you ever been in a car accident? What happened?

Yes. Too many. My first one was just three weeks after I got my license when I was 16. It was snowy and icy in Connecticut and I was driving my parents ‘96 Ford Ranger when I hit a patch of black ice. The truck fishtailed and I ended up in a snow bank. I was fine, but it was reallllly scary. The second one was also in the Ford Ranger and I was driving back to DC from CT with some furniture for my new apartment during college. I was stopped at a light behind another car, when out of nowhere, a third car came and rear ended me going full speed about 35 mph. It pushed my truck into the car in front of me, but the truck was totally fine. The driver said he was looking at the houses on the street rather than the car ahead (mine). Smart, guy.

I wish those were it, but I also got in another accident where I side swiped my car about a year after buying it new in a garage and caused $3,600 worth of damage. I also backed into a pole and took out one of my rear lights on a separate occasion. It’s been a LONG time since I’ve been in an accident though – about 4+ years.

I’m a good driver, I swear.

Why did you attend your college?

I went to George Washington University for college. Truth be told, I was SUPER lazy when it came to applying to colleges and only selected schools that took the common app (does that even exist anymore??). I applied just to NYU, GWU, and McGill, and GWU was the only school I got into! I got wait listed at NYU, though I had really high grades and test scores, I had minimal extra curriculars… In hindsight, only applying to three good schools (no safety!) was a huge mistake, but I’m lucky it worked out.

Describe your morning routine today.

Tuesday morning – Woke up at 6:40am and laid in bed for 10 minutes before getting out of bed. Put on my gym clothes that I’d laid out the night before, went upstairs to my apartment gym and knocked out 5.0 miles in 49:13 (9:51 pace). I was done by 7:50, came back to my apartment, jumped in the shower, got dressed, had some Iced Kahlua Cream Coffee (YUM), grabbed my lunch packed the night before, and left by 8:35am. Ate breakfast (overnight oats again) immediately upon sitting down at my desk just after 9am.

Have you ever snooped through someone else’s things? Did you find anything interesting?

I’m definitely a snoop and 100% get it from my mother. When I was little, she used to go through the garbage to find receipts to see what gifts we got her (!!) and would trick me into telling me what we got her for a present by saying my older sisters had already told her and I would cry and fall for it EVERY time… Sad story.

What do you think happens when you die?

I’d like to think there’s an after life and I’m still exploring my faith, but do believe in Heaven.

Are you superstitious?

Slightly. I always knock on wood when I say something to prevent from jinxing. I also will NEVER write about a morning workout the night before, even though I pre-write most of my posts. So, if you ever see a morning workout posted on here or mentioned, I’ve gone back in and written it AFTER the workout.

Do people think you are younger or older than you actually are?

Growing up, I’ve always been told I’m mature beyond my years but now I feel like I’m on par with 27. I do have some gray hairs though, which is depressing.

How did your parents’ relationship influence you?

I don’t want to answer this, because though my parents are still together and have been married for a loooong time, I don’t envy their relationship. I will say that they are some of the most supportive and loving parents and would do anything for any of their children – and that is definitely something I hope to carry forward into my own life/parenthood when I get there.

What were the three happiest moments of your life?

Hmm… When my niece Claire was born (my introduction into Aunt-hood and now I have three niece/nephews to love on!), when I graduated from college (I was so excited to be on my own – – little did I realize how good I had it!), and when I hit my goal weight (never thought it would happen in a million years).

Tell me… What are you really good at, and what are you really bad at. Also, are you superstitious?

I totally knock on wood too! As for good and bad…hmm I’m good at cooking, cleaning, shopping for good deals and list making/executing. I’m bad at singing, new electronic devices and sports.

HA. I should add signing to my list of really bad, or singing off key to what I’m good at! =)

I knock on wood, too, but I don’t consider myself superstitious at all. I’m good at Excel (LOL, nerd!) and I’m good at being a good friend. I’m too am really bad at singing, but I still do – sorry folks! And I’m bad at being graceful. Total klutz.

Great post Beth. Speaking of morning workouts – does your new apartment building have a gym? What will you be doing for that?

I’m really good at envisioning things before they’re “real” – like I don’t have to draw/write out something to plan it all out in my head, whether it’s something like vacation planning or laying out furniture in a room. I’m pretty bad at communicating said “vision” to others, but it’s definitely something I work on. I’m not superstitious, though I will say “knock on wood,” just out of habit or when I say something ridiculous.

I’m really good at listening, budgeting/saving, and holding a grudge (oops, that may not be such a good thing ;))

I have very little fashion sense, have trouble remember music lyrics, and need to work on being less impatient.

I’m good at being a friend, being funny (or so I’m told, sometimes when I’m being serious lol), cooking, and reading.

I’m bad about complaining too much, being a bit lazy, impulse purchases, and dancing.

I am a tiny bit superstitious. I actually own “the Dictionary of Superstitions”. I try not take it too seriously though.

I’m good at procrastinating… I am actually doing it right now

I’m bad at making time for the important stuff lately… sigh!

Love this post Beth. So fun to get to know you better. What am I really good at? Making jam, and making people laugh. I’m really bad at asking for help. (drives my husband crazy…he thinks I take on more than I should – at home and at work) And superstitious. Yup, got that from my Mom. Hope your Wed is going well.

I was hoping you would participate in this! Very cool to learn more about you. Me: good at working with kids, bad at all things detail-oriented!

I’m good at my job. Really though, I am and I love that I finally am.

I’m bad at … remembering little things and losing my engagement ring. I lose it pretty often but so far I’ve always found it!

I’m not superstitious.
